Care Tips

Beeswax candles offer a natural, non-toxic, and eco-friendly option for your home. Their warm glow and delightful honey fragrance create a cozy atmosphere. To extend the life of your candles, consider these helpful tips:

  • Wick Trimming: Before each lighting and after every burn, trim the wick to a length between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch. This ensures a clean burn and reduces soot.

  • Burn Time: Limit your candle burn time to no more than 4 hours at a stretch. Alternatively, burn for about 1 hour for each inch of the candle's width. This practice helps prevent tunneling, where the center burns down while the edges remain unused.

  • Extinguishing: To extinguish your candle effectively and prepare it for future use, press the wick into the melted wax pool with a non-flammable tool. This technique minimizes smoke and sets the wick for the next lighting. Be sure to straighten the wick after extinguishing.

  • Safety First: Always keep an eye on burning candles. Avoid placing them near drafts or open windows. Ensure they are on a stable, fire-safe surface and within your sight at all times.

  • Extra Tips: When using multiple candles, make sure they are spaced apart sufficiently. Candles that are too close can generate excess heat, causing nearby candles to melt. Also, refrain from adding scents or essential oils directly to the molten wax.

  • Reusing Beeswax: If you have leftover beeswax once your candle has burned down, consider melting it down to create new candles. Additionally, beeswax serves various household purposes, like preventing squeaks in wooden floors and lubricating drawers. It’s also a valuable ingredient for body balms and cosmetics.

Frequently asked questions

How long can I burn my Candle?

Candle should not be burned over 4 hrs at a time.

To what length should the wick be trimmed?

The wick should not be trimmed shorter than 1/2 inch. Trimming it shorter than this may cause a low flame or result in the flame being extinguished by the wax pool.

What should I do if the wax pool gets too deep and my wick is drowning?

Pour the wax into a safe container or discard it in the trash, and make sure to keep the wick trimmed to 1/2 inch. Be cautious, as the wax will be very hot and can cause burns.

Are your candles 100% beeswax?

Yes. Each of our candles is crafted from 100% pure beeswax sourced locally in Manitoba.

Why are Beeswax Candles valued higher?

Pure beeswax is a high value natural material. Since beeswax is only produced by honeybees the supply is limited. Fun fact; Honeybees consume eight to ten pounds of Honey to produce one pound of beeswax.

Do you use chemicals to process your beeswax?

No chemicals are used in our candle making process. Instead, our beeswax is sourced from apiaries that prioritize purity without altering the natural characteristics of beeswax.

Why do beeswax candles vary in colour?

Beeswax has a variety of shades and tones, candle colours may vary for this reason. The colour of the beeswax will vary depending on the type of nectar the bees are gathering.

Why is a white coating developing on my candle and what can I do about it?

Over time, beeswax candles develop a whitish coating that is called bloom. This occurs only in 100% pure beeswax candles and is the result of oils rising to the surface of the candle. Warming the candle slowly and gently with a hair dryer or gently rubbing the candle with a lint free cloth will remove candle bloom. Beeswax is a natural substance and will fade over time if left in direct sunlight.
